{"id":3928,"date":"2019-02-28T20:23:22","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T20:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/803.557.mywebsitetransfer.com\/?p=3928"},"modified":"2019-07-26T19:35:32","modified_gmt":"2019-07-26T19:35:32","slug":"medicare-for-all-the-2019-version-reality-check-part-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pwer.com\/?p=3928","title":{"rendered":"Medicare For All \u2013 The 2019 Version: Reality Check (Part 4)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We\nstrongly believe that healthcare costs cannot be resolved by a government\ntakeover of healthcare without dramatic reduction of care, dramatic loss of\nwell-paid employment, and without dramatic contraction in the national\nhealthcare infrastructure of the United States. &nbsp;Another possibility is regarding substantial\nincreases in taxes to the U.S. economy, whether personal or corporate or both;\nhowever, that\u2019s not my area of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\nFebruary 23, 2019, at the U.S. House of Representatives, a bill was introduced\nas \u201cMedicare For All Act of 2019\u201d with 100 co-sponsors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this\npace, the U.S. House Bill intends to totally transform the $3.5 trillion U.S.\nhealthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\nappears the bill would expand, as its title notes, and offer all Americans the\nsame benefits as those generally offered to Medicare members who are mostly\nover the age of 65 or disabled.&nbsp; The bill\nalso appears intent on banning general insurance coverage by insurance\ncompanies; it appears they would still be able to sell supplemental optional\ncoverage for electable procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plan\nchanges dramatically how hospitals and providers get paid by effectively\ncreating a wider and deeper new bureaucracy, a regional overseer of operating\nbudgets for all providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each\nhospital would ideally negotiate budgets with these overseers, as well as other\nkey healthcare providers effectively nationalizing the U.S. healthcare\ninfrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doctors\ncould be paid under a fee-for-service plan or become part of the hospital staff\nand be included in the hospital annual budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We would\nexpect mass defections from healthcare, in the range of many millions of\nworkers abandoning healthcare, and the elimination of employment positions. &nbsp;A 10% contraction in the workforce would not\nsurprise me, as the largest industry in America with the most secure employment,\nwould produce an employment recession likely by itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From our\nexperience of over 25 years in healthcare, we believe this model is unworkable\nin America. &nbsp;As an entrepreneur, and\nthose like me will adapt [I already have alternative plans if ever required]\nhowever, care will unquestionably drop in its totality, and the repercussions\nfor Americans will be dramatic and long-lasting. &nbsp;As we have noted before in this blog, this\nplan could have been implemented just after the Second World War; however,\ntoday, I believe it\u2019s beyond an illusion. &nbsp;The changes in the U.S. healthcare system\nwould likely take a decade to adjust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We strongly\nbelieve that the consumer is the path to fixing the U.S. healthcare system, and\nit escalates costs [more on the 10-year cost projections to 2027 in a future\nblog].
