Meaningful Use 3 is on the way!

On March 20, 2105 at exactly 4:19 PM (EST) I received an email blast from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). The headline read, “HHS announces proposed rules to support the path to nationwide interoperability” it went on to say:

Proposed Electronic Health Record Incentive Programs and 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria rules issued for comment

“The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) today announced the release of the Stage 3 notice of proposed rule-making for the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records (EHRs) Incentive Programs and 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria to improve the way electronic health information is shared and ultimately improve the way care is delivered and experienced.”

The facts are that HHS published 300 pages in the U.S. Federal Register (For more information, click on the link above). The first blush at the numbers show 38 new requirements that we will discuss in the future. The good news is ideally, we have until 2018 to comply as an industry.
