In our ongoing series on Silicon Valley and healthcare, we began with the discussion of Alphabet/Google’s growing interest in healthcare. We continue this series with Google, so that we can discuss Amazon, Inc. next, and then discuss other, much less prominent players, coming into healthcare. We believe that Amazon will have the largest impact on healthcare in 2018. It seems that the news of healthcare technology is clogging not only my email, but also my Twitter feed daily. As a student of healthcare for over 25 years, I have been […]

As we continue our series on Silicon Valley and Healthcare, we move to Mountain View, California; the headquarters of Alphabet, Inc. and its monster subsidiary, Google, Inc. Later in this series, we will discuss what we think is the coming battle between Google and Amazon in healthcare, and possibly in other industries. We have always advocated the need of transformation in healthcare, and more utilization of technologies that have already transformed nearly every other industry in the […]

Mega Health Insurance Mergers – Good Or Bad?

By: | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The media recently announced at least two proposed mega-mergers by large insurance companies however, no offer has been accepted at this time. Cigna Corporation had received an offer from Anthem, Inc. for, at the last count, $47.5 billion (USD). Aetna, Inc. is also reportedly close to tendering an offer to buy Humana, Inc. Additionally, there is talk on the Street that UnitedHealth Group, Inc. made a takeover approach to Aetna. If completed, I believe the first two deal deals would have a direct impact on patients, providers and maybe even […]
